Global Opportunities

Be a force for good for a world in need

Seek opportunities to expand your societal awareness through international programs that promote cultural fluency.

Global competencies, cross-cultural fluency and language skills are among the top 10 career competencies employers are seeking today. If you are interested in expanding your cross-cultural experience, consider interning in another country.  Important to keep in mind, all countries have visa and work permit regulations, so be sure to gather country-specific information. GoinGlobal’s Country Career Guides are an excellent resource for work permit and visa regulations, financial considerations, resume/cv guidelines, interview tips and cultural advice.

To gain greater fluency in a language, see the Notre Dame Language Opportunities Programs, Critical Language Scholarship  or the Boren Scholarships/Fellowships for critical languages (connect with the Flatley Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement regarding the latter two) You can also utilize the study abroad Petition Program through NDI to meet an academic or curricular need not available through existing Notre Dame programs.

Finding and Applying

It can be difficult to determine the quality and substance of opportunities abroad. We cannot guarantee the quality of internship or job that you may find through some of these resources. Where possible we have included Notre Dame based opportunities. As a general rule, we do not recommend internships for which you pay a program or job opportunities that sound too good to be true - everything provided, including a salary.

One of the best resources for your global opportunity research is the Notre Dame alumni network. Connect with the Notre Dame Club and alumni in the location of interest through the Alumni Association's Club Directory and IrishCompass. Do your research first and know what kind of experience you are seeking and what you want to gain from it. Ask for their advice on the feasibility and options for an internship or job opportunity in their country.
